Campaign Message
‘Everyone Hates Drink Drivers’ is a bold and uncompromising statement.
The fact is, by choosing to drink and drive you are choosing to take part in an illegal activity that can potentially have devastating effects on the lives of South Australians.
A Drink Driver not only puts their own life at risk, but the lives of all road users.
You have a choice not to be a drink driver.
Everyone Hates Drink Drivers. Have your say.

For every drunk driver that gets on the road, There is at least one person to watch them do it. I have been the designated driver a hundred times and have taken the keys away as many. Once I blocked in a friend with my car because she refused to give me her keys.
I like to think I saved a life....could have been yours.

A good Christian principle, and this is being quoted by an atheist. Drink driving is a social problem and as a society we collectively need to look for solutions to the problem. Are you all helping the people you know who have a drinking problem, or are you sitting on your backsides in judgement? Shame on those who don't help others and shame on the government who make money from the sale of liquor, thus being willing participants to developing the problem!!

I like the Ad. When my kids see it they remember the statements like i loved my brother. This helps open a conversation about drink driving, and how it is seen as being uncool. They are not old enough to get a license, but I do like the idea of educating them early on this subject.
Tony wrote
Get them off the road, confiscate their cars ( for good, not temporarily), cancel their licences for a year first time, then forever. Repeat offenders ? Just jail them , ban them from ever driving again.

i defently agree with the ads, IF YOU DRINK DRIVE YOUR A BLOODY IDIOT! you can loose your own life or your bestfriends

I am certain people's attitudes would be different if they lost their child or mother to a drunk driver. It is so easily avoided, yet almost every weekend there are stories of people being killed or hit by drunk drivers. Grow up and take responsibility for your actions beofre it is too late. I like the campaign as it instills fear.

Does it occur to the Government that some drink drivers are alcoholics who have nowhere to go to get well. What about spending some of your funding on detox/rehab centres! And it's a poor show using the word Hate in any government campaign.

Love the comments. Some people have forgotten why these ads exist. I agree to those who think tougher penalties should be enforced. Under learning conditions, there should be no alcohol or drugs in their system. If they cannot abide by these rules,(which by the way, are there to protect the road users), then they do not deserve to be privileged enough to hold a license. Take it away and let them come back when they are mature enough to take on the responsibility to earn all road user's trust. Because that is what we put in to others when we drive on the roads. Trust for every other person on the road. If they cannot be trusted to drive responsible and obey the road rules, thenthey put every other road user at risk. Be hard even for older drivers. Same thing, no excuses, just take their privileges away, even getting caught once. We may actually save the lifes and injuries from innocent victims who do the right thing. I know, evryone will make a mistake at one time or another, but by drugs and alcohol, the mistake is taking control of a lethal weapon, namely their motor vehicle, then they aim it down the streets at no one in particular, but all the same it like aiming a loaded gun at a festival. Someone will be the innocent victim of an IDIOT.

I teach my child not to use the word hate, I think it's a nasty word. This is social exclusion to the max - is this how we deal with a social problem? Hate is never the answer.

great campaign, should have restrictions on the sale of alcohol (ie being able to tell when someone is way to drunk to buy it!!!!) and have breathalysers in pub carparks and regular and accurate testing.

The problem with drink driving is complex.
Education is the best way to get the message to both young and even older adults , however much of the problem stems from the excessive sale of alcohol and binge drinking.
The government and various lobby groups managed to stop tobacco advertising and the sale and consumption of tobacco had reduced dramatically.......but cigarette and tobacco users only harm themselves, and it is very rare to see a fatal accident being caused by someone smoking [ except for inattention whilst driving ]
The blatant use of advertisng alcohol, combined with the absolute greed of some outlets in selling alcohol products, does nothing to tell our younger generation that it will kill them eventually.
I am an ex smoker, a very, very moderate consumer of alcohol, and a nominee of a licenced venue ,and I refuse to sell alcohol to any one who is even the slightest bit intoxicated, underage or obviously not capable of making good judgement.
The profit motivation of some bars ,bottle shops and night clubs is bordering on criminal and the sooner licencing inspectors do more patrols late at night and early morning when all the problems happen then the sooner we will reduce the carnage and misery it brings.Usually the managers of these premises are under constant pressure from the owners who are only motivated by the 'bottom line'
Our eldest son was driving home from work on a Friday night and killed by a drunk driver exiting a hotel.....so I know the misery and heartbreak it has bought our family !
I now keep reminding my youngest son [19] that drink driving could mean an accident , which could mean manslaughter, which can mean Jail, which can mean getting raped by men much bigger than him ,and usually with aids......!!!

What will it be next? The Grim Reaper? This is another one of those "me too" add campaigns. Very little thought , lowest common denominator adds. Just what the world needs .. more hate! I will teach my kids based on positive, supportive, encouraging methods. Not hate. Negativity turns the campaign into a fizzer. I in fact change channels when the add comes on it is just TOO negative. Some of these people may have made one mistake their whole life. Maybe driven the next day after feeling 100% then the world hates them? What, do they rank next to pedophiles and drug pushers? Really? Sorry I also don't let my kids watch it for this overuse of the hate thing. It's not a christian attitude at all.

HATE is a very strong word to use. No, I don't HATE them, but I hate the action and the pain it causes every day.
Drink driving is, in my opinion, an act of laziness - drink drivers are those who are too lazy to organise safe transport home, because they figure "I'm only slightly over the limit, I won't get caught". Don't be stupid. The fact is you WILL one day be caught, or kill someone and have to live with that guilt for the rest of your life. Even worse, you could lose your own life or someone who matters to you. Don't risk it. Get organised before you go out and THINK about the consequences of your actions. Put away those car keys before you hurt someone!

I don't hate drink drvers but I do feel sorry for them because they are such weak people and don't seem to care about anything at all. They miss out on so much in life.
However,I do hate the unnecessary sadness they cause in this world - not only the deaths of innocent people but the horrible injuries they inflict on many more. This is so unfair!
Maybe I do hate some of them - the ones who couldn't care less about ruining another person's life.

I see what you are trying to do with this campaign however it will not work.
As Sally said if your daughter was convicted of drink driving you would not hate her. I can understand hating the act but not the person.
Do you really think encouraging hate is a good thing and doesn't comflict with the original princple?
How about education before hate?
Sally wrote
I agree that the act of drink driving is morally repugnant and that everyone should hate the BEHAVIOUR of drink driving. It is a very selfish choice to potentially put others at risk due to your lack of planning an alternative way home. However this campaign is very black and white. If your daughter was convicted of drink driving, would you hate her? Of course not. You would be disappointed beyond words, but you would not hate her.

I actually agree with Sean.....in relation to it's too late once a drinker is in the car...then it becomes purely revenue exercise for the government. It's a little like
saying marijhauna is illegal...but you are allowed to have
three plants...but can be fined!
I believe the advertisements say a lot...without actually hearing it....We all have choices to make about our own
bodies and well being...drinking, smoking, eating, exercise and so on...but when we affect the lives of others then we become morally and criminally responsible for those choices.

The whole point of this campaign is to show people who do drink and drive that nobody has their backs. Nobody's gonna stand by them and say "It's ok mate, it wasn't your fault" because at the end of the day it is their fault, 100% of the blame lies on them.

This is a brilliant ad campaign. I HATE DRINK DRIVERS. For those of you who do not, take a good look at yourselves. You probably drink-drive yourself. Can you imagine if some stupid drunk person got behing the wheel of a car, and killed your closest friend, of family member, because of their negligent stupidity? Don't say that they don't have a choice in wether they drink-drive. Thats why there is such a thing as designated drivers. If the deso is too drunk to drive aswell, CALL A BLOODY CAB!!!
To all of you selfish people out there who do drink and drive, put yourself in the victim's shoes, and see how you feel. You DO have a choice. Use it wisely.

Why is alcohol so freely available? Its a drug like any other drug. Catching people when they are already in their car driving seems a bit useless. Why not have breathalisers in car parks before people get in their car, and their keys confiscated if they blow over the limit? Its all to do with revenue raising and govenment taxes!
